The heritage behind the huts
We are Andrew and Lynne, a husband and wife team with a background in business and travel. When Covid hit, we noticed a huge spike in glampsites appearing and saw an opportunity. We sought planning permission to place five shepherd huts on our own 49-acre farm to create our very own beautiful glamping site.
During the research process, we noticed there was a gap in the Irish market for well-built, luxury hut accommodation at an affordable cost. So, Black Sheep Shepherd Huts Ireland was established, bringing the people of Northern Ireland the same exceptional, high-quality huts the original Black Sheep brand is known for.
We love our shepherd hut! Great construction and finish. Quality materials and well-thought-out details included in the price. Excellent value compared to competitors.

Our huts are transported on a flatbed lorry, typically fitted with a self-contained crane. When at the delivery site, we will use the crane to lift the hut and place it into position. To help us out, we ask if you could ensure suitable access for delivery. If you aren’t sure a simple delivery will be possible, please contact us to discuss delivery options.
We understand that delivery using a lorry may not be possible for some locations. In this circumstance, we may be able to source alternative solutions. Please discuss these with us before placing your order.
When used privately, shepherd huts do not usually require planning permission. For huts used for commercial purposes, however, you will probably need permission. You’ll also likely need planning permission if you are using your shepherd hut for rental purposes. If you are unsure about whether you need planning permission, speak to your local planning department. We strongly advise you to make these necessary inquiries about planning permission before placing a hut order.
Our huts are designed by default to be hooked up to all primary services. Because of this, you will need a water supply, an electric supply (32amp), and a waste connection.
Our team can also install compost or chemical toilets if required.
With our Herdwick package, we can offer off-grid huts. To learn more about these huts, read the extras section on your chosen hut page or contact a member of our team.
If well maintained with regular preventative repairs, painting and maintenance, your shepherd hut should last for 20 years or more.
We offer a certain degree of flexibility for all of our huts. Kitchen, windows, bed positions and more can all be altered to some degree without incurring large extra costs. Let us know of any changes you require and we will be happy to quote you for them.
Our huts are designed to require the minimum amount of maintenance, but keeping the exterior woodwork in good condition will go a long way. The exterior cladding can be simply removed if anything more in-depth is required, and the work can be easily carried out by a competent tradesmaid.
We offer a one-year warranty against any defects in materials and construction. As with all wooden structures, there will be natural movement during each season, and doors and window frames may require adjustment. We cannot cover this type of maintenance under the warranty unless there is a recognisable production defect.
All of the electrical appliances used in your hut will come with the benefit of the manufacturer’s full warranty.
We prefer to think of other huts as overpriced, rather than think of ours as ‘cheap’. Our huts are built from templates to provide a flexible off-the-shelf-style product, crafted to an excellent standard while offering incredible value for money. We achieve this by using templates and jigs to simplify our manufacturing. Combined with our bulk purchasing, this process allows us to offer a uniquely styled hut costing much less than our competitors.
Perfect for all year-round use, our huts are fully insulated. We have standard underfloor heating to ensure total warmth and comfort, even when the temperatures outside are at their lowest. A wood-burner upgrade is also available to add both warmth and character to the hut.
